May 17th Planting

JUST GROWING BLOG- MAY 20, 2022

Planning a garden planting day is tricky business. People want to help, but schedules must coincide. Add into the mix that you need to plan it a week ahead, and base it on the weather forecast for the coming week, it’s even more of a challenge. Then throw in the fact that Spring 2022 in Winnipeg has been incredibly unpredictible. Mix it all together and you have May 17th at St. Margaret’s gardens.

The only reason I showed up is because I planned it. I got there an hour earlier than I planned and it was not yet raining. I got to work and then I was hooked and I did not want to leave, even when it began to rain. So I stayed.

Jeremy Goldberg once said, “Courage is knowing it might hurt, and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same. And that’s why life is hard.”

I worked until 4:00 pm. It was actually a delightful day, and planting a garden in the rain has its merits.

There is much left to do, so I will be planning another garden planting day, and perhaps the weather will be with us. I will leave you with some pictures of what was accomplished.

Peace.
